1ST SHEET FILM FESTIVAL 14TH JUNE 2014

KING CNUT

Will Glancy was early into the fray with his personal take on how a video promo should be made, brilliant soundtrack with his adapted cover version of “Sex Bomb” –ah baby, oh yea! Packed with innuendo and Sheet ephemera it’s already a massive hit with all who’ve seen it. Cnut takes the spirit of the Festival, runs wild and free and is sure to take it’s place in village folklore, lovely job Will, leave the Dinosaur out of the equation

and it would be perfect.

DOG DAYS IN SHEET

Mark & Joe Harvey accomplished short combines superb writing and narrative with a “Dogs Eye” tour of the Parish, the dog mounted camera meandering and sniffing it’s way as the story unfolds, fulfilling the brief perfectly. “Disco Dog” and the Millennium Fields scene impart a change of pace, the editing and effects work very well with the soundtrack

evoking a timeless, English village atmosphere, which from a doggy perspective is immune from the pressures and influences of the outside world.

This is clearly a writer/director partnership that will continue to deliver and we look forward to the sequel.

WHEN SHEET GOT INVADED

Superb planning and execution, with carefully composed shots, massive variety of camera angles, close-ups and wider angles and by shooting later in the day, the quality of light is just beautiful, with the colour and quality of each scene matching well and has a sense of continuity which is hard to beat.

It weaves a curious but simple narrative with brilliant styling and choice of props and a rousing soundtrack, cameo appearances by significant others, are magic and very funny. The perhaps inadvertent homage to Kubrick’s “2001 a Space Odyssey” with nylon fishing line slightly visible in some shots didn’t go unnoticed. This is a highly talented team in action and we just love it.

JUST SHEET

Just absolutely charming! With great documentary style camerawork and portrait format working well too. The magical original soundtrack is so catchy I’ve been singing it all week and look forward to the “Dance mix” soon to be released. This is not just a story well told but a slice of family and village life capturing moments in time that will last for ever, there is sure to be not a dry eye in the house.

THE SHEET JOB

A very personal and evocative piece of work, that many here can allude to, far, far more than a pastiche of the 60’s classic, it’s accessible to even a passing stranger. Clearly lots of clever tinkering with camera mounting and dollies has gone on and in true cinematic style our director has invented kit to get the shots as visualized. The framing, composition and editing are hard to fault, the dappled light on the car interior as “On days like this” draws us through the familiar places we know and love and in some cases fear, an understated yet intense story unfolds.

MAMA ME AHH?

This festival would be nothing without the passion and sense of fun and enjoyment that’s gone into making Mama, this team could clearly do this day in day out and never run out of steam, costumes and styling lift it’s cache and there are plenty of comedy moments to

hold attention, It’s not perfect, but it’s rough and very ready, having said that, the post production, editing and titles are classy and raise the game in barrel loads, the result is a massive rip roaring musical jamboree! ENJOY.

BADCOP BADCOP

The mean streets of Sheet plays out with an intensity that would have Tarantino running for the hills, clearly masses of effort has gone into this production, acting and dialogue are both strong and much is totally hilarious! The River Rother Scene “RIP JAMES HAWES” is total delight, with the combination of editing, music and camera work producing the best cinematography in the whole competition, Zabriske Point springs to mind. Raw talent and great result from a young and feisty team, lets have some more boys, this one’s a keeper.

LES POULES

This is epic in every respect, stage managed, cast and dressed to perfection, I particularly

liked seeing a bottle of Jameson’s looming large in one of the later scenes. The “Riders of The Val Kyrie” bike scene looks stunning and this is another example of superb editing and graphics holding sway. As well as a cheeky little story line this is essentially a document of a very special event, which means so much to all who took part. It’s clever,

witty and well executed and an enormous asset to a fantastic set of entries in a festival

and competion sure to go from strength to strength.
